TELEVSION
TV
You know what a TV test pattern looks like.
TV went off the air at midnight and they played the Star Spangled Banner right before signing off.
Your favorite shows were, My Friend Flicka, Fury and Sky King.
Your TV remote was your feet! AND, most programs were in black & white!
People thought it was bad for your eyes to watch TV in the dark so everyone had TV lights that sat on top of the TV.

NEIGHBORHOODS
It was safe to leave your door unlocked - day AND night!

HOUSEHOLD
drying clothes
Clothes were dried outdoors on a clothes line even in the winter months.
The icebox, (refrigerator) had to be defrosted.
There really were vacuum cleaner salesmen that went door-to-door.

PEOPLE
You know who Tennessee Ernie Ford is.
You remember Dwight D. Eisenhower's presidency.

CLOTHING STYLES
Shoes
You wore Saddle Shoes to school.

MEDICAL
Ether was the anesthetic of choice and you know what it smells like.
You know someone who had polio.

TOYS
Roller skates had keys.
You loved it when the McCall's magazine came and you could cut out the paper dolls.

COMMUNICATION
The quickest way to get the news out was to use the "party-line"!
(Several telephones would be on the same line so when the phone would ring in your house, your neighbors would pick theirs up and listen in - or say their two cents worth, too!)

  AUTOMOBILES
Car
Turning on your car's air conditioner meant rolling down the windows.
Children sat wherever they wanted in the family car - no such thing as special car seats for kids!

HOLIDAYS & SEASONS
A favorite Halloween prank was tipping over outhouses!
You remember the smell of hot boots when you stood on the floor furnace's grate to get warm in the winter.

CHURCH
Hats
Women and girls wore hats and gloves to church every Sunday.

GENERAL
You go to an antique store and say" I used to have one of those!"
